So there was some discussion on my dash about what classes were active vs. passive, and I may not be able to offer any incredible in-depth character analysis to contribute, but I certainly can find patterns. I based my guesses on the assumptions that 1. Classes are only either active or passive, regardless of aspect and 2. Each aspect is shared by at most two classes, and thus each aspect correlates to exactly one active and one passive class, and not two of each. This way, the aspects can be viewed as a balanced pair of an active and passive class.
I started with Vriska as the thief of light, because we know that’s active. Then, Rose as the seer of light should be passive, as well as Terezi as the seer of mind. Next, Nepeta and Roxy as rogues are passive, making Dirk, Eridan, John, and Equius active and Jake and Tavros passive.
After that, I had to do a little bit more guesswork, because there aren’t any more direct hints in canon as to active vs. passive classes. The maid and sylph classes both seemed more passive to me than the witch or the knight, so I followed the pattern as such, so Kanaya, Jane, and Aradia are passive while Jade, Feferi, Dave, and Karkat are active. Additionally, I like this split better than the other possibility because it sorts four kids as passive and four as active, instead of unbalanced.
Finally, Sollux and Gamzee are the odd men out, with no other character sharing either of their aspects or classes, so again to make it balanced between the number of active vs. passive classes for the trolls, one had to be passive and the other active. This could pretty much go either way, but I prefer the bard as an active class and the mage as passive, as opposed to the other way around.
